To the Editor.—

In their paper published in the January 1992 Pediatrics, Langkamp and Langhough1 present their findings on the assessment of the knowledge of primary care providers about diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP) immunization recommendations for preterm infants. Their findings indicate the need for more explicit recommendations, specifically that birth weight is not a criterion for administration of DTP. In the 1991 edition of the Red Book, however (which was published after their manuscript was accepted), the recommendation on immunization of preterm infants was revised from the 1988 edition to include birth weight and is as follows: "Prematurely born infants should be immunized at the usual chronological age even if the infant was very small at birth" (indicates the change).
